Summer is coming to a quick close. As I sit with my children and watch them prepare to return to the land of academia, I am reminded of the days when I was getting ready to go to school. The early years, I was not as excited but as I grew and got older, each year, I would wake up at five am, make sure that my back pack was packed, pick out my first day outfit and visit my grandmother. This was a routine that started in the fourth grade and continued until my senior year in high school. The only change in my senior year is that my grandmother passed away during my junior year. My children will get ready for their first day of school on August 21st with renewed purpose and will set out to learn new lessons and make new friends. This year, I have a 2nd grader, a 4th grader, and a 9th grader. It is hard to believe that they have grown so fast and are embarking on the challenges and successes that they face every year.
Each year, we begin with the first day of school picture. As they have gotten older, it has become a struggle to get them to get them in one place, but we get it done. I want to say to all the children, enjoy going back to school I want to say to the mommy’s and daddy’s that are going to be putting them on the bus or watching them drive away in their vehicles, enjoy your first day of school silence.
Happy End of Summer y’all!
